So, I'm having some trouble and I need your input.
I think you all know I'm working on scoring the Planet Earth series, and at the very tail end of the
Great Plains episode, there's a short scene which is totally stumping me. It's a sequence of monkeys wading through a flooded plain, leisurely eating grass and flowers. The scene is about 2:30 long, but I could push as much as 3:00, since this is the last scene in the episode, and I need music over the credits too.
So, here's the scene without music.
http://ctu.spotlightmobile.com/get/wya/MonkeysinWater.movWhat I'd like for you to do is to watch it, and see if it inspires any particular musical thoughts for you. If nothing else, give me your sense of genre. Do these monkeys demand bluegrass, or jazz, or are they begging for hip-hop -- actually I think Hip-hop might be a bad idea.
So far, I have tried something like 40-50 different tracks, and I can't seem to to find music which plays this scene. I'm stumped.
Today's song comes from the far off land of Scandinavia, where a group called
Detektivbyrån (don't ask me what that means) has created a sound that I can't claim to have heard anywhere before. An interesting 3 piece, primarily featuring drums, accordion, and vibes, Detektivbyrån brings a unique sound to their music. The more research I do, the more I find these amazing Swedish musicians. This stuff is just begging to be put into a movie somewhere. It's like Amelie meets Danny Elfman, but really good. I don't think I'm doing it justice. You'd be better of just listening.
