Fanning the Flames...
... another cyclist-motorist confrontation - this time on N. Mississippi.

What's interesting in this is that this is the second confrontation sparked by bike professionals calling out bike thugs on their behavior - something that should be done more often.

If I were a criminal attorney, I'd represent the guy arrested for hitting the bike thug with a lock - but I can recommend the owner of the car the bike thug scratched to sue the bike thug in small claims court.

I love that when I typed in "liberal" while searching for communities that "damnportlanders" was the top slot, and probably is most of the time. Trying to find an additional community and just can't escape! I had a chuckle to myself.

Check out Stanley Lieber's blog. It really is Stanley Lieber, and he is a brilliant multimedia artist. He is an inspiration to me.

Destination:Anywhere
Needed...
and wanted...
Didn't realize
what it *all* was supposed to mean

Watching cars go East and West
On a Boulevard of dreams
Shades of Grey,Silver, Black and white
on a background of blue

And I sit
Ponder til I get confused
Cars going by at 45...
until I walk outside and turn my own keys

and join them
Wander East or West
somehow I don't care

Tired of the same old surroundings
There's a marvelous world of adventure
at the next exit
the next metering light

The next fill up
The next oil change

Running away
Fading Away

...Time to see the USA
in a Chevrolet...

Reality Bites: patients believe that their lives are on TV (nationalpost.com)
Joel and Ian Gold, brothers and psychiatrists from Montreal, believe they have discovered a signature mental illness of the YouTube era: patients who claim they are subjects of their own reality TV shows.

They call it the "Truman Show Delusion"...

I suppose that people that are so disenfranchised as to their own importance in the world will go to great lengths to imagine themselves subjects of glamorous intrigue. Why is an ordinary existence such a bad thing?

Hard times? Suck it up!
McCain may have thrown Phil Gramm under the bus for this sentiment, but McCain has repeatedly said the same things about the economy over and over, echoing even the President. We don't need change, we just need to feel better about our lot. That's the real message from the GOP. I might be able to buy that line if it wasn't obvious how rich the warmongers and oil concerns are getting, record profit margins, off of this war effort that is destroying our domestic economy.

hiking the gorge without a car
Hey I would really really love to hike some of the gorge, but I don't have a car. I know I can take the bus out to troutdale, but is there a trail starting from troutdale or do I have to walk down that winding highway 30 for 5 miles til I get to one of the trail heads?

Oh and I'll have 7 high school students with me as well. :/ my googlefu sucks. anybody know for sure what my options are?

thanks!

Detektivbyrån - 7/19/08
So, I'm having some trouble and I need your input.
I think you all know I'm working on scoring the Planet Earth series, and at the very tail end of the Great Plains episode, there's a short scene which is totally stumping me.  It's a sequence of monkeys wading through a flooded plain, leisurely eating grass and flowers.  The scene is about 2:30 long, but I could push as much as 3:00, since this is the last scene in the episode, and I need music over the credits too.
So, here's the scene without music.
http://ctu.spotlightmobile.com/get/wya/MonkeysinWater.mov

What I'd like for you to do is to watch it, and see if it inspires any particular musical thoughts for you.  If nothing else, give me your sense of genre.  Do these monkeys demand bluegrass, or jazz, or are they begging for hip-hop -- actually I think Hip-hop might be a bad idea.
So far, I have tried something like 40-50 different tracks, and I can't seem to to find music which plays this scene.  I'm stumped.

Today's song comes from the far off land of Scandinavia, where a group called Detektivbyrån (don't ask me what that means) has created a sound that I can't claim to have heard anywhere before.  An interesting 3 piece, primarily featuring drums, accordion, and vibes, Detektivbyrån brings a unique sound to their music.  The more research I do, the more I find these amazing Swedish musicians.  This stuff is just begging to be put into a movie somewhere.  It's like Amelie meets Danny Elfman, but really good.  I don't think I'm doing it justice.  You'd be better of just listening.

Looking for rental
HI Ya'll
I'm looking for a rental in PDX somewhere on the grid as it were - I'm currently in Lake Oswego and ready to move back into the city.

I'd prefer a duplex or small house, something with a little outdoor space. Yes, the catch is I have pets - 1 cat and a dog. Here's a pic of Miss Rosa at Dog Camp:

Um...she's usually not THAT dirty, but always that cute :)

If you see anything in your hood, or have any leads, I'd appreciate it!

Many thanks!

I just watched the Watchmen trailer.

The tone is all wrong. Watchmen is not supposed to be "cool". If the trailer is any indication, the filmmakers appear to have completely missed the point of the series.

Now... if I were 19 years old... the seat under me would be wet right now.
